Knitting up a Poppy Storm

Anette from my monthly Tuesday night Pub Knit and Stitch group is one of the most prolific knitters that I know.  And once she takes on a challenge … nothing, and I mean nothing, stands in her way.  Her knitting skills are amazing and she has now turned her considerable talent and boundless energy to the 5000 Poppies project.  We are so lucky!!!

This is the first of Anette’s stash … 60 lovely poppies.  She tells me she gets 13 knitted poppies to a 100 gram ball of yarn and she still has 9 balls to go …. yay.  That’s a LOT of poppies.  Thank you Anette.

About 5000 Poppies

The 5000 Poppies Project is a community tribute of respect and remembrance for our servicemen and women, their families and their communities. Created in 2013 by sisters in law Lynn Berry and Margaret Knight in honour of their fathers service in WWII, the project has been closely aligned with the Centenary of Anzac 2014 to 2018, and has consisted of a number of small and large scale installations made from handcrafted poppies from many thousands of contributors from all over the world.

They are fabulous. How’s your pool table looking – is it fully covered yet?
