Aloha Poppy Makers

Dear fellow poppy makers … just to let you know I have over 700 gorgeous poppies of all persuasions sitting on my pool table right now … I had hoped to have the pool table full by the end of August … it’s now overflowing with poppies and joy.  Marg and I are pretty sure we can reach 1000 for the November display …. what do you think?

And as for the total of 5000 … we have not even scratched the surface yet and still a year and a half or so to go … we are now thinking 5000 is a VERY conservative number.  And we are talking with a number of people about some regional poppy plantings as well.  So that’s exciting!!!

Interestingly, when we started out just a couple of short months ago … we thought 5000 would be a stretch but certainly achievable.  I don’t think we realised just how this wonderful project would resonate with the crafting community.  So spread the word my friends and keep making.

Today I am off on a week long break to Hawaii … looking forward to the warmth of the sun on my face … and the company of women for a stitching retreat.

But have no fear … poppy making will continue while I am away … just a little addicted, obsessed, focused, driven …. hooked!!!!!  And I am hoping to get my fellow travellers involved as well.  I will try to post photos.

About 5000 Poppies

The 5000 Poppies Project is a community tribute of respect and remembrance for our servicemen and women, their families and their communities. Created in 2013 by sisters in law Lynn Berry and Margaret Knight in honour of their fathers service in WWII, the project has been closely aligned with the Centenary of Anzac 2014 to 2018, and has consisted of a number of small and large scale installations made from handcrafted poppies from many thousands of contributors from all over the world.
