Good evening poppy makers and supporters … What amazing few weeks we have had at 5000 Poppies Headquarters. We are rapidly approaching the 35,000 mark with 34,577 poppies received to date. We have almost doubled our count since Anzac Day this year … and still have 6 months plus and many thousands of poppies still to come. I am continually astounded by the commitment of this massive nationwide team.
But the really big news is that INTERNATIONAL SUPER STAR award winning landscape designer Phillip Johnson (the BEST landscape designer in the world as judged at the 2013 RHS Chelsea Flower and Garden Show) … has offered to design our poppy display on Anzac Day next year. We have known for some time with the number of poppies that we are collecting that the display will be amazing … but now it will be WORLDCLASS amazing (and I am sure it will go viral through social media channels). So we are beyond thrilled about Phillip’s excitement, drive and commitment to the project. His vision for the display is mind boggling … but you will have to wait to see that.
So my friends, if that doesn’t get you excited … there will be more coming in the next months.
Phillip has asked what it would take to make half a million poppies … After I recovered … I had a bit of a chuckle about what my backroom would look like, but really there is absolutely no reason why we can’t reach 102,784. So I am committed … how about you?
I have 200 sitting waiting for the next sewing day so do let me know when it is. Cheers, Helen Webber
Where are you located Helen?

Hi Lorraine …
This is an Australian project and will be shown initially in Melbourne and then we have tentative plans to tour it … so maybe you can catch it somewhere in Australia over the next four years.
The Tower of London display is on until November this year I believe. So if you are in Europe next year you will miss it

I’m one of a large number of ladies working on your 5000 Poppies from the Sunshine Coast, Qld,
so think there is a good chance of making the 100,000 mark.
How amazing would that be Marlene.
Hopefully when we get to touring … the project will come to Brisbane and you will get to see it!!!
Lynn
I’m sure we will all do our best
And have a lot of fun doing it Carolyn.
It’s been an amazing journey for many of us.
Hope you are enjoying the process.

Hope you have enjoyed making poppies for our wonderful project.

Hi Sue,
102,784 is the number of Australian soldiers who have lost their lives in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations according to the War Memorial.
I would also love to add on another 18,000 or so for the New Zealanders … but they are doing well in New Zealand with the project and shoudl read their numbers quite easily I think.

Came across the link above, when I googled 5000 poppies (about four pages in). It is from a different, earlier UK project – but very moving.
Very different from the UK project … a very community focussed … not for profit … art installation … made by the people. Love being part of it. So humbled.
