Assembling the Beast

Good morning poppy friends …. we have now moved into our wonderful (albeit temporary) space at the Melbourne Town Hall … lots of room to move … very central CBD within a couple of minutes walking distance from Flinders Street Station.

11006380_868298729880115_7671913092665551534_nMy wonderful big brother Chris Beasley has constructed some rather spectacular worktables for us to spread out … and we were helped in the move by Chris, my good friend Mark Newham and Ray McKenzie … all those boxes and that lifting … we had a 15 minute window to unload a 4 tonne truck … I won’t say it was packed to the rafters but it was pretty full.  We have never moved so fast in our lives ….

The address is Melbourne Town Hall, Cnr Little Collins Street and Swanston Street Melbourne.  Ask at the concierge desk for the 5000 Poppies group.  So work will begin in earnest at 9.00 a.m. this morning.  We will set up a roster system asap so you can book some time with us if you like.  Its fun, communal … such a wonderful thing to see it come together … and we are keen to get as many people as we can over the coming weeks to help lighten the considerable load … we are now on the downhill run to Anzac Day.  Could not be more excited!!!!!

If you would like to join us for a day or two (or more) we would love to have you.  We have enough tools for up to 20 volunteers each day … Monday to Friday and occasional weekends.  Please email me your name and phone number if you would like to join us.  We will be in touch when we get a break in the assembly.

See you at the Town Hall.  We are ready!

Lynn and Marg

About 5000 Poppies

The 5000 Poppies Project is a community tribute of respect and remembrance for our servicemen and women, their families and their communities. Created in 2013 by sisters in law Lynn Berry and Margaret Knight in honour of their fathers service in WWII, the project has been closely aligned with the Centenary of Anzac 2014 to 2018, and has consisted of a number of small and large scale installations made from handcrafted poppies from many thousands of contributors from all over the world.

    Hi Lynn and Marg,

Congratulations on the huge chain reaction that you have generated. What a fantastic response and it would be interesting to see how many people you have engaged with throughout this project.

I will be visiting Melbourne Wed to Fri this coming week for our CWA international day guest speaker on Thursday and will have another member with me.

I wondered if I/we could call in and see the masterpiece that is coming together.

Is it possible that I could give a hand for a some time either late Wednesday afternoon or evening if you are doing evenings, Thursday evening or Friday morning.

We will travel 400km to Melbourne for our CWA event and thought it would be a great opportunity to offer my assistance as well as have a look.

Are you still requiring more poppies?

If you could respond to my email or phone 0409833080 as I do not have face book and haven’t been able to keep updated through this social media.

Once again well done for your intuition and what a great project it has turned out to be

    Yours sincerely

Hi Lynn and Marg, I wonder what device you are using to attach the poppies?
    Thanks,
    Linda.

    • 5000poppies says:

      Hi Linda,
We are using a standard tagging gun … available from office works with a 25 mm tag.
They are generally used for garment tagging.
      Lynn
