5000 Poppies at Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance

Good morning team Poppy …

It’s a huge day at 5000 Poppies today … this afternoon, we will be installing some 200,000 poppies at Melbourne’s iconic Shrine of Remembrance in a very moving tribute of love, honour and respect for our servicemen and women, past and present, their families and their communities.

This is what our lovely little community project is all about.

So we are feeling excited and privileged to be at the Shrine with all of your beautiful poppies … alongside the Menin Gate Buglers to commemorate the 99th anniversary of the end of WWI.  What a spectacular tribute it will make.

The poppies will be at the Shrine until Sunday afternoon 12 November.  Hope you get a chance to come down and see us.

About 5000 Poppies

The 5000 Poppies Project is a community tribute of respect and remembrance for our servicemen and women, their families and their communities. Created in 2013 by sisters in law Lynn Berry and Margaret Knight in honour of their fathers service in WWII, the project has been closely aligned with the Centenary of Anzac 2014 to 2018, and has consisted of a number of small and large scale installations made from handcrafted poppies from many thousands of contributors from all over the world.

      Thank you sos much Eyvonne,
It’s because of the amazing contributions from the extended 5000 Poppies team that we have been able to do this project in the first place, so thank you for your contribution.

      Hi Yvonne,
Thank you … it has certainly been an epic journey.
Canberra 2018 is expected to be our final installation … although I expect that there will be many installations inspired by 5000 Poppies in years to come in many places. You could start one locally, as many others have already if you wish!
      Lynn
