My wife and I where on the 100 aniversory for ANZAC Cruise and one of the things that happened was knitting poppies for the graves at Gallipoli. My wife and I joined the group. My crochet was not great but I had fun doing it. We have our wool and will get started.
Hi Jenny,
I am not aware of any groups operating out of the Yarra Valley but we have a very active facebook group and you could use this to contact people in your local area and perhaps start one.
Many of the libraries have knitting groups and you could work through them if you wish.
Our facebook group is 5000 Poppies.
Its very active and we share pics and patterns constantly.
Welcome aboard.
Regards,
Lynn Berry
Hi Eyvonne,
Thank you for your very kind offer.
We will actually be doing our setup in mid October for Remembrance day so that the poppies are up for 4-5 weeks.
Very exciting.
We will also, however, be there on Remembrance Day so hope to catch up with you.
Keep poppying on!!!
Lynn
We at the Hibiscus Retirement Village at Tewantin Qld have started a small poppy knitting and crochet group to make as many as possible. A lady in our village is organising the project and is hopeful that she will beable to forward 2,000 poppies.
Happy knitting and crocheting,
Lynn Baker.
Fantastic Lynn.
Welcome aboard.
Look forward to seeing your wonderful poppies in due course.
Keep abreast of current information by subscribing to the blog.
The address to send your poppies to is 5000 Poppies, P.O. Box 115, Ashburton Vic 3145 or they can be delivered to the East Malvern RSL, Stanley Grose Drive, East Malvern Vic 3145
Thanks again.
Lynn
Yes Lesley,
Our installation at the AWM is in October/November next year so plenty of time.
Although at this stage we may bring the collection date forward.
So April next year would be great.
Kind regards,
Lynn Berry
I would like a pattern for a crochet poppy. Although u provide a link for a pattern there does not appear to be one. I am a beginner and need a pattern. Your guidance would be appreciated
Hello.
I have added another link for you … there are many many patterns on the patterns page of the blog.
If you click on the first one or cut and paste the address into your browser window … for September 2017 patterns there are two quite simple crochet patterns … in particular my three row crochet poppy pattern is very simple and very quick and works very well on the stems.
Have fun making.
Lynn https://5000poppies.wordpress.com/poppy-patterns/
Hi Annette,
My apologies for the slow response to your comment. I have been absolutely inundated and it’s taking me time to work my way through. By now I’m hoping you have found patterns but if not … there are a plethora on the patterns page of the blog https://5000poppies.wordpress.com/poppy-patterns/
Enjoy making.
Kind regards,
Lynn BErry
I have made 150 poppies. They only have 4 petals and are quite firm, measuring 7cms across. Will these be of any use? Do they have safety pins on backs or brooch pins. I will make some from the 5000 poppies post.
Hi Dianne,
Apologies for my tardy response to your comment. I have been inundated and slowly running through the comments. Unless you have already sent your poppies … if they are for the War Memorial they don’t require pins. Size and design sound within our guidelines, so they should be fine.
Kind regards,
Lynn Berry
Hi Dianne,
At this point there is only one collection point in New South Wales … in St Ives (the address is on the blog).
However, the address to send your poppies to is 5000 Poppies, P.O. Box 115, Ashburton Vic 3145 or they can be delivered to the East Malvern RSL, Stanley Grose Drive, East Malvern Vic 3145 or you can drop to the Australian War Memorial if you are in the vicinity.
Enjoy making.
Kind regards,
Lynn Berry
Hi Team I have balls of wool that we want to send down to you guys. This was raised by Noosa depot bus drivers who want to support this Great cause. I am the President of Coolum Peregian RSL Sub Branch. Please let me know how I can get this too you.
Hi Mark,
Thank you so much, what a wonderful thing to do … there is always a need for more yarn.
The address to send to is 5000 Poppies, P.O. Box 115, Ashburton Vic 3145 or they can be delivered to the East Malvern RSL, Stanley Grose Drive, East Malvern Vic 3145
We will distribute to our makers.
What an amazing thing.
Kind regards,
Lynn Berry
Hi, I have just started making RSL suitable poppies, as I’ve not long had the chance to take part. Mine are fairly humble, using Lynn’s rib pattern. My cousin’s wife has just started as well and is knitting beautiful poppies (so far 1 each!). Looking forward to being part of this project!
Good morning Denise,

In the meantime, there are patterns on the blog also … would love to have a contribution from you.

Hi Lynn, our small weekly craft group at Strathdon Community has been knitting poppies from your D: Lynn’s Easy Knitted Rib Stitch Poppy but heard that no more RSL poppies were needed. Also, when would you like them to be sent to you? I’m only a beginner but have enjoyed the project immensely. I would also be happy to help if any help is needed, providing you are not too difficult to get to. I live in Forest Hill and use public transport.
Hi Jill,
Not quite sure where you heard we didn’t need any more poppies … because we are still collecting.
So yes please, send all you can … we are making good progress but more needed.
The address is 5000 Poppies, P.O. Box 115, Ashburton Vic 3145 or they can be delivered to the East Malvern RSL, Stanley Grose Drive, East Malvern Vic 3145
Hi Jill,
Sorry for the delay in responding, so MANY comments to respond to on the blog, just can’t seem to keep up. However, cut off date for the RSL poppies is officially next April, but we are rapidly coming to the end of our collection for the RSL and I expect we will have the required numbers before Christmas or just after such has been the response. However, we are still collecting for our AWM installation in Canberra next year, and a number of other projects we are planning, so your poppies will be welcome and find a beautiful home.
I am so excited about 2018.
Best regards,
Lynn Berry
