Hello Lyn, I would like to offer to be a collection point for “5000 poppies”. I live in Beechmont Qld 4211, in the Gold Coast Hinterland. I am already an Area Co-ordinator for “Wraps with Love”, a charity in Sydney (www.artsandcraftsnsw.com.au/Wrap.htm) where we knit 10″ squares that are then made into Wraps and sent all over the world. I have 17 knitters who I am sure would love to help out on 5000 Poppies. I am about to send out an group email to let them know about it, and advise I have some wool here to get them started.
Congratulations on a wonderful project, we will certainly be there to help you achieve your goal.
    Regards, Pammy Frangipani

        Hi Lynn,
Iam in Bexley NSW and heard of the project through 2 GB my friend and I have been knitting poppies but can’t fine any despatch area in Sydney when I ask RSL Clubs the just have no idea of the project.
I read a lady in Sylvanis would like to be a pick up point, this would be fine for us
        to despatch our poppies.
Would you be able to assist me of this small problem.

        Hi Yvonne,
I have just checked the collection point in Sydney and can’t see that we have one … most of the NSW collection points are country based. Not everyone tells me that they are collecting, poppies just turn up on my doorstep from groups all around the country.
You can send your poppies to us at P.O. Box 115, Ashburton, Vic. 3147 if you wish.
Or you can drop them to the Stitches and Craft Show at Rosehill in March … I’ve put a link here for the details Stitches and Craft Show Sydney
        Enjoy making.
        Lynn
I will put a note on the facebook group and see if there is anyone in your area collecting.
I don’t have a Sylvania collection point listed on the blog I am sorry.

  3. I would love to be the collection point for Cairns and the surrounds. I just flew down for the Fleet Review in Sydney, crocheting poppies the whole time, and sparked a lot of interest. I managed to get 6 balls of the black eyelash yarn to bring home, and have started promoting your brilliant project up here. Today I got permission for a display in the Reception area of the Day Surgery I work in, so need to knit one tonight, and get an A4 poster designed. I agree with you that it is addictive, and I think the 60,000 is definitely reachable.

  4. Hi,
I would love to offer my business, Crafty Frog, in Canberra ACT as a collection point for 5000 poppies. We are located in Kambah, and will also be publicising this event through our Facebook page and our Newsletter list that currently has 1200 people on it.

My daughter is in the AirForce (Nurse), my husband is ex-AirForce and my friend is a Viet vet so I have a vested interest 🙂

    • 5000poppies says:

    Hi 5000 poppies.

We own Goornong General Store and are willing to be a collection point for poppies. We are situated just north east of Bendigo on the main road through to Elmore and Echuca. Most of the people I have spoken to are enthusiastic about the project. The concept brings a tear to the eye.

  13. Gayle says:

Hi Lyn. I realise you probably have some ideas of what to do with them when finished, but I was thinking that if separated into wool and synthetic they could be sown into knee rugs distributed by the RSL to individual people. Then they get to sit beneath the poppies. what do you think?

    • 5000poppies says:

      Hi Gayle,
We are REALLY hoping that the War Memorial in Canberra will take them as a community art installation.
That’s what we are working towards.
      Lynn

Hi all!. I would like to contribute. Can someone give me an idea on an easy knitting pattern as I have basic skills. Also, is there a specific colour Red?. Thanks!

  22. Pam Smith says:

This a great project. Would the local r.s.l. clubs be collection and dispatch points ? This would make it convenient for country area.

  23. Caraline says:

Which RSL would be selling our poppies? I’m thinking of making some for our local country RSL.

    • 5000 Poppies says:

      Hi Caraline,
This is a Victoria Wide RSL collection .. a special edition handmade poppy to that the Victorian RSL for supporting our project when we went to Europe last year. If you are Victorian based, they will be packaged in Melbourne and then distributed to all of the Victorian RSL’s for sale.
The AWM installation, however, is a national project … so don’t forget to pop a few in the mail to us for the installation in Canberra next year.
      Kind Regards,

Can you please give address’s for collection points South of Brisbane CBD, especially in the Logan City area? My craft group have produced quite a lot of poppies for AWM but if they are not required, we can give them to local RSL’s in our region. Please advise.
    Many thanks,
    Margie Vawser

    • 5000 Poppies says:

Thank you so much for your contribution. At this point there is no collection point in Brisbane, but you could ask your local Member of Parliament if they would send the poppies to Melbourne on your behalf. That might work … we have been working on options for national collection points but it has proved difficult.
The address to send your poppies to is 5000 Poppies, P.O. Box 115, Ashburton Vic 3145 or they can be delivered to the East Malvern RSL, Stanley Grose Drive, East Malvern Vic 3145 Keep your eye on the blog for updates on collection points … we are adding as people offer.
      Thanks again.
      Kind regards,
      Lynn

I do not have either of those libraries listed as collection points for the 5000 Poppies Project, however, they may be collecting for the local WA RSL poppies project.
